Immobile and Zaza: “We are an ‘ignorant’ couple, we don’t want to stop now”
Ciro Immobile and Simone Zaza clearly belong in the category of the “modern striker”. They are quick and have technical ability in narrow spaces. They are always ready to press their opponents and to help their teammates at the back, which is what their head coach wants them to do. The first striker partnership of the Conte era received plaudits in the friendly against Netherlands and in the first European qualifier against Norway. It was a brand new partnership, but immediately it appeared to be a close-knit one. Both strikers eventually ended up equally splitting the goals and the headlines: Immobile scored his first ever goal for the Azzurri in Bari, whilst Zaza’s came a few days later in Oslo. Both of them said at the press conference earlier today: “We’re very happy with what we did in the first two games and we sure don’t want to stop now, we want to go on like that”.
Immobile, whilst smiling, commented on what kind of a duo they form: “How would I define our partnership? ‘Ignorant’. I like Zaza’s determination and competitiveness. He will become a great player and will have to choose between playing in Italy or abroad at some point”.
